How does the title relate to the book?
The title of the book is "The Lucky One" and even though they don´t mention those words more than once or twice in the novel, it has to do a lot with the story. "The Lucky One" refers to as a divorced woman who lived in Hampton County. But why is she the lucky one and to who? Well, it all started at a local ground fair, when Beth and her brother Drake were enjoying thier last weekend together before he went to serve the country as a marine. That day, Drake had taken a picture of Beth wearing a shirt that had the words "the lucky lady" printed on the front.  Later, Beth, or Elizabeth, as he used to call her, wrote something at the back of the picture that said: "Keep safe! -E" and gave it to him so he could take it to Iraq. While Drake was at his tour in Iraq, he called her sister saying that he had lost the picture and requested another one. Before the new picture was delivered to him, he died. Later, another marine named Logan Thibault while taking his morning run, he saw something glimmer between the bushes. He got closer and realized it was a picture. For a long time, that picture was posted in a bulleting board while Thibault hoped that someone who might had lost it picked it up, but nobody seemed to own it. His friend Victor, told him to keep the picture because maybe it was meant for him to have it. While Thibault had the picture with him, he started to feel a sudden strike of luck, and he noticed this because everytime he won money at a poker game, or survived a dangerous event, he happened to have the photo in his pocket. From that moment on he decided to call the photo his "luck charm". Becuase the photo saved him from many attacks at Iraq, he decided to start a journey to find the woman in the picture and thank her becuase he felt that he owed her something. The lucky one was Elizabeth, beacuse she was a luck charm to Logan while he was at Iraq.

How do the events connect to each other and to the whole?
At the beginning of the novel, the author introduced each of the charaters separetley, telling us their different stories. For example, at the begining one of the main characters, Logan Thibault, faces some troubles with a sheriff while he was at the woods. The sheriff didn´t seem to trust or like Thibault by the way he told him his story about walking across the country becuase he liked to walk, or niether because of his hippie-like appearances. Later, when Thibault arrived to Hampton and found the woman that he was looking for, he worked for her and her grandmother at thier kennel, and started building a strong bond which later lead them to date. Once they were dating, Beth confessed to him  that she wasn´t very lucky in the dating world before, but somehow things between them seemed to work out well. Beth had told Thibault a lot of things about her ex-husband about how immature he was, etc. One day while they were both sitting and chatting, his ex arrived to drop his son off. As soon as his ex got out of the car, Thibault and him were both surprised and shocked to see each other again. Thibault had never imagined that Beth´s ex-husband was the sheriff that he had problems with before he arrived to Hampton, and niether Keith Clayton imagined that her ex-wife was dating the hippie he encountered and had troubles with at the woods. When this happened, we could connect that Keith Clayton was Beth´s ex-husband, the sheriff who had troubles with Thibault, and that Thibault was dating Beth.

What actions happen?
At the begining of the novel, we get to know the main characters. Logan Thibault is introduced, he is a young man who was a U.S. Marine and found a luck charm in his tour of duty in Iraq. He lived alone, with his dog Zeus, who was also his best friend and his travel companion. Also Elizabeth, or Beth, is introduced. She is a young woman who got divorced and lived with her grandmother Nana and his son Ben in the City of Hampton in North Carolina. She worked at a dog kennel with Nana, were they trained dogs. After each of them is introduced, Thibault starts his journey to find Beth, the girl in his lucky charm photograph.

What does the setting contribute to the work?
In the novel, one of the main characters (Logan Thibault), found a photograph of a girl durnig his tour of duty in Iraq which made him experience a sudden streak of luck. The photograph saved him from dying and made him earn a lot of money. It seemed to be taken in the city of Hampton at a fairground where the only resource to find her was to be able to locate three tall evergreen trees. Thibault decided to start a journey to the city of Hampton to find the girl in the picture and thank her. When he arrives to Hampton the setting becomes very important becuase it helps him get one step closer from finding her.

Who are the principal characters? Describe them.
One of the principal characters is a 25-year-old ex U.S. Marine named Logan Thibault. While he was in his tour of duty in Iraq, he found a photograph that saved him from dying and sets out in a journey across the country to find the woman in the photograph that was his "lucky charm". Thibault liked going when he wanted, at the pace he wanted, to the place he wanted to be. He was kind of a loner, who didn´t even had an official adress, who basically carried all of his stuff everywhere, and was always accompanied by his dog Zeus everywhere he went.  Another of the principal characters is a divorced mother with a young son named Elizabeth. She was a very caring mother and was always worried about her son Ben. She and her Nana worked together at a local kennel in North Carolina. Elizabeth had a very good relation with her Nana and she always went to her for advice and felt like she could trust her for anything.

What kind of figurative language does the writter use? If imagery is present, what senses do they draw on? Share an example to clarify your point.
The writter uses a lot of imagery in this novel. He describes every scene that the characters appear on. He draws on the senses of view, smell, sound, and sometimes touch. Example:
Pg. 25  The blonde with the smile and the jade-colored mischievous eyes, wearing jeans and a T-shirt emblazoned with the words lucky lady across the front. Behind her was a banner showing the words HAMPTON FAIRGROUNDS. A German shepherd, gray in the muzzle, stood by her side. In the crowd behind her were two young men, clustered near the ticket stand and a bit out of focus, wearing T-shirts with logos. Three evergreen trees rose in the distance, pointy ones that could grow almost anywhere. On the back of the photo were the handwritten words, "Keep safe! E."

Who is the narrator? How do you know?
In this novel, at the beginning the story is narrated by an omniscient narrator. He knows the whole story, characters, etc. He never appears in the story as a character, he only tells us what the characters do, think, and feel. In my opinion an omniscient narrator is perfect for novels because in that way you won´t get confused between the dialogues of all the characters that appear.

Picture
The book I chose is "The Lucky One" by Nicholas Sparks. I chose this book because I love the Nicholas Sparks based movies and thought that reading the book would be more interesting than the movie. I think that Nicholas Sparks is a very creative author and writes beautiful novels.
